Students Awared regarding Basic Human Rights

Legal Awareness Program for Human Rights (LAPH) funded by Trocair, a foreign based donor agency, launched school campaign to raise awareness among the students regarding basic human rights and to motivate them for protection of human rights. The human rights activists arranged this campaign at Government Higher secondary School Morilasht where hundred of students (both girls and boys) participated in the seminar. Ms Gulshad, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager of LAPH, highlighted basic human rights and stressed upon the students to protect human rights, as they are the future ambassadors and architects of the nation. 

She said that women folk are often deprived of their basic human rights and are harassed in different ways. They are also deprived from their rights in property and heir. Women used to be buried live before Islam but this is Islam who bestowed them their real status and dignity in the society. She urged upon the government for sanctioning special quota in employment to save women from frustrations and to decrease their suicide ratio.  She emphasized the girls students to come forward and fight for their rights because rights need to be snatched as nobody gives right to women willingly.

Chairman, Board of Director (LAPH) Niaz Ali Shah said that their organization was working for creating awareness regarding basic human rights among the masses and that is why they launched school campaign to convey their message to students. He said that LAPH was working in different sectors like awareness raising, capacity building, rehabilitation of widow women, providing free legal aid through their free legal aid center, women advocacy, training for media men, police officials and government officials, as well as to support students especially girls students to minimize dropt out ratio. He said that LAPH have compensated 7 girls students of different categories and have registered 30 free cases of poor and oppressed women.

Amjad Hjussain Subject Specialist also expressed his views regarding human rights and thanked LAPH for arranging this sensitization seminar and school campaigns for creating and raising awareness among the students. Hundred of students of both sexes as well as teachers participated in the school campaign for awareness raising.
