A day after a student Sravanti died in Narayana Junior College at Tarnaka allegedly due to failure to extend medical assistance, the Osmania University police on Wednesday arrested college Principal Chandrashekhar Reddy and zonal officer Chandrashekhar. Both were produced before a court. They were released on bail after furnishing sureties.
A case was registered against the Principal and the zonal officer under section 304-A (rash and negligent act resulting in death) of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint lodged by her father.
The student’s death triggered protests with hundreds of activists of different student organisations blocking the road at Tarnaka on Tuesday.
Sravanti fell ill while attending class on Tuesday. Her father alleged that despite co-students informing about her condition, the Principal failed to respond. She fell unconscious by evening and was declared brought dead after being shifted to a private hospital.
