Summertime in the Windy City

Summer time in Chicago is the best time to check out some of what the Windy City has to offer. Chicago is a city rich in diversity and represents many different ethnic groups from African-American to various European ethnicities. Ever since Millenium Park opened up it’s made socialization in the summer time great. Chicago has many great restaurants that fit everyone’s tastes and budgets. Some of the best places are usually the family-owned establishments since they exemplify a family environment and believe in high quality service. You can get some pretty hot deals downtown in terms of restaurants and activities. Millenium Park provides some quality entertainment where you can even take a blanket and a picnic basket and go listen to some music with the Chicago Symphony on the lawn for those who don’t want to venture up on North Shore to Highland Park to go to Ravinia to listen to music it’s right there close by and you can go relax and are steps away from small places to get refreshments.

There’s the Taste of Chicago that was formerly called Chicagofest which is 10 days of food, music, and fun. You can experience a world all in one place since some of the best eateries in Chicago are represented at this event annually. You can get a roll of tickets and go around to different stands and setups and get samples of some of the food which is absolutely delicious. The best part is when you can walk over to Navy Pier and get yourself some cool drinks and sit outdoors in their beer garden or partake in some shopping in the little shops. You’re also only steps away from Water Tower Place mall which is the heart of the Magnificent Mile. Girardelhi’s is one of the most popular places to get ice cream, malts, and shakes downtown, but Margie’s Candies is one of the last places that is an actual ice cream fountain and shop with one of the best milkshakes around. For those of you who love culture take advantage of the numerous museums the city has to offer from the DuSable Museum of African-American history to the Museum of Science and Industry. There’s a museum for every taste and cultural interest, but the best part about Chicago is that it’s easy and accessible because of the well-organized public transportation system that can take you to various points of the city to some of these events.

There are also a lot of small neighborhood festivals that take place annually all over the city that you can check at out as well. There are countless tours you can take from exploring historical areas that were once ran by the mafia when Al Capone was in power to Record Row down in the south end of the city. The beautiful thing about Chicago is that you will never run out of things to do during your visit or if you are a native and live here since so many new things do come to the city on a regular basis. The crown jewel of Chicago is the theater entertainment it offers and you can do either off broadway or full broadway productions that come to Chicago. For the sports fan depending on when you visit Chicago you can do baseball in the spring and summer or football and basketball in the fall and winter. Whatever you like Chicago has it all and will accommodate all tastes and budgets so there’s nothing you can find that will break the bank there’s something for everyone.
