Jammu / Srinagar: Residents of Jammu and Kashmir are worst sufferers
on the account of power supply and it is not a new idea. But after
knowing that state is rich in water wealth and generates major portion
of power utilized in Northern India, it amounts to mental depression
for citizen. In Jammu, the festival of protests against Power
Development Department (PDD) starts soon after the next day of annual
darbar move to Srinagar.
Similarly, people in valley prefer cool in chill below -10 degrees
centigrade in winter with an aim to get uninterrupted supply during
holy month of Ramzan, but unfortunately people feel embarrassed by the
department every next year. Scorching heat conditions in Kashmir,
power woes are haunting people in the ongoing holy month of Ramadan
bitterer than terrorism and poverty.
According to reports, PDD’s has not only unleashed reign of terror
upon the migrants of Jagti camp but also had taken to task to a beggar
by charging him at their will. Reports said that the beggar has been
threatened of disconnection if failed to clear dues lying pending
against his agreement account.
It is astonishing that in a state where political leaders and
bureaucrats owe thousands and lakhs to PDD department a beggar namely
Fazuldin Chohan of Talwari village in Magma of Handwara district whose
agreement was done vide No TL-V3-19 and a bill amounting Rs 2614 was
shoot at him. He cleared it and was next shoot at with a bill
amounting Rs 9230. He anyhow managed to deposit Rs 6230 and a blance
of Rs 3000 is laying pending uupon him.
Mr Fauldin alleged that he was told that he would be charged with Rs
108 per month for a single florescent tube. But receiving huge bills
with out witnessing power in the village is worrisome, he added. Under
these circumstances, if a beggar is not spared by PDD how can a person
being state subject and owning a place to live in would be let free
from charges (Jazia).
Higher authorities at the helm of affairs leave no stone unturned to
make a fool of those who raise a query after coming through such
incidents. Their answers probably would be that there is uninterrupted
supply of power in entire city or they will reply as “there is no such
complaint with the department and the problem raised would be looked
into”. One of officer’s crossed the limit by saying that entire system
is electronic and when load goes upward against prescribed in a
particular area the switches trip down automatically. These answers
not only work as deterrent for frequent query makers but also pave way
to them for reemployment after retirement.
