Supreme Court Of India upheld 27 % reservation for OBCs

The Supreme Court of India has upheld 27 % reservation for OBC (Other Backward Castes) .In a landmark judgment pronounced today, the Highest Court of India , while upholding 27 % reservation envisaged by the Indian Government for OBCs, however excluded the creamy layer from the reservation, which means, the affluent people in the OBC are excluded from the purview of reservation.

The Central Government has provided for 27 % reservation for the OBCs in the educational institutions and in the employment opportunities, which was vehemently opposed by the forward communities and they also managed to rally the entire medical students around them to oppose the 27 % reservation for the OBCs.There was also unprecedented strikes by the medicos, the students of IITs  and the IIMs.It also created  a lot of problems in the IIMs and IITs during their admission process.Ending all the speculations and controversies, the Supreme Court of India has upheld the 27 % reservation for OBCs.

Consequent to the landmark judgment pronounced by the Supreme Court of India,the 27 % reservation for OBCs is going to be implemented in the academic institutions from the current academic year itself.

The verdict of the Supreme Court of India has been widely welcomed by the student community and in the political circles as well, especially among the medicos.CPI (M) party has welcomed the judgment and asked the Central Government to implement the 27 % reservation to the OBCs as per the Court’s verdict.In Tamil Nadu, the ruling DMK front welcomed the decision.The PMK headed by Dr.Ramadass, though welcomed the verdict of the Supreme Court, he expressed his reservation on the exclusion of creamy layer, as it would set up a dangerous precedent.
