Jammu, (Scoop News) –Major Amit Kumar Thenge, a brave officer, made the supreme sacrifice during an operation in Mendhar Sector of Poonch District in J&K.
Maj Amit Kumar Thenge was born on 19 April 1982 and was commissioned in the Corps of Signals on 09 Jun 2007. The Officer belonged to Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh. This young officer had always set the highest standards of junior leadership, courage for his subordinates and was a major source of motivation for all. He volunteered for the elite PARA (SF) and was to leave for his probation in coming months. He paid with his life for his singularly brave act, but left for the rest of his coades a unique example of supreme bravery and determined cold courage. The country would be proud of young leaders like him who help in keeping the citizens of the nation safe from harm that the terrorists today are perpetrating on all irrespective of colour, creed or religion.
He is survived by his parents and a younger brother who reside in Shaktinagar of district Chindwara in Madhya Pradesh.
It may be mentioned here Major was killed and a colonel injured in a fierce gun battle between the security forces and terrorists in Mendhar forest area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday night.Five other soldiers were injured in the encounter that was continuing till Wednesday morning. Two LeT terrorists were also killed.The encounter was started Tuesday night when the troops of 37 Rashtriya Rifles led by Col. Ajay Katoch and Major Amit Phunge moved into Beri Rakh forests in Mendhar,of Jammu region , to trace the terrorists after locals reported suspected movements in the area.
The Colonel received a bullet injury in his neck, while the Major took the brunt of heavy firing from Ak-47 assault rifles by militants and died on the spot.
