Survey Says Zimbabweans Welcome into Malawi

A survey recent survey has revealed that most Malawians are ready to host Zimbabweans who are running away from their country because of rising prices of goods as well as  laws they are not comfortable with.

Most of them say Zimbabweans have a cause to run away from their country because of economic hardships.

Prices in Zimbawe are rising almost every month . This has mostly  hit low income groups. Some of them have resorted to do cross border trade in small scale goods like soaps and margarine as well as milk. Others have decided to stay for a while in Malawi.

During the federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, most Malawians worked in Harare and Bulawayo. Some worked as far as [Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

"We should help them , why not? After all they kept us in Zimbabwe when we were running away from Dr. Banda," said one respondent.

Some Malawians  run way from Dr. Kamuzu Banda, President of Malawi in the 1970s.Some of them lived in Zimbabawe and Zambia.

Dr. Banda who ruled the clountry with iron fists for 30 years banned multiparty politics in Malawi in 1964 .This led many people of dissenting views to run away for fear of being killed.

Malawi played host to over one million Mozambicans when there was civil war in their country.
