The suspicious white van that led to a temporary evacuation of New York City’s Times Square poses no terrorism threat, according to recent statements from city police.
As reported on WNBC and The New York Times, there was "no explosive device" found when police officers forced the van open after probing it with a robot and towing a nearby car. The contents of the unmarked van, parked just a day before New Year’s Eve, were "clothes."
The news erupted on Google Trends and Twitter, where journalists like Unapreeta Das of Reuters tweeted when the van was cleared of suspicion:
Suspicious vehicle cleared in times sq. Much ado, but thanks for breaking tedium of slow news day.
