Yangon, Myanmar : Myanmar democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi has praised the recent vigils in Yangon marking the 2007-Saffron March as "good action", said the Voice Weekly journal.
Asked how did shed view the recent vigils, she replied that praying for good was a good action and praying with good intentions for benefits of others was good.
However, Myanmar president Thein Sein expressed his view on recent peaceful protets in his message to the Union Parliament on 30 September that recent actions of some political parties were intended "to force the government into the tight corner and to undermine peace and stablity " of the country.
The two peaceful protests by pro-democracy activits to test the tolerance of the Myanmar’s new government took place in Yangon on anniversary of the Saffron March at Sule Pagoda in downtown Yangon on September 27 and at Myanmar’s national landmark Shwedagon Pagoda on September 28, demanding release of political prisoners.
However, President Thein Sein has promised a general amnesty to prisoners in near futrue.
About 200 political prisoners are still held in prisons across the country.
