SWC organizes workshop on ” Rights of Women in Islam”

 

Srinagar,November 04 (Scoop News) –   A one day workshop “Rights of Women in Islam” was organized by J&K State Womens’ Commission (SWC) in collaboration with Womens’ Study Centre, College of Education Srinagar here today.

MLA, Habakadal and Chairperson, JK Womens’ Commission, s Shamima Firdous, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the workshop, MLA, s. Shamima Firdous said that Islam has given equal status to men and women besides issuing directions to respect women and give highest care and dignity to women folk. She said that the modern society has degraded women and social evils like dowry and other atrocities are being committed on her.

She called upon one and all to come forward and give women the same status as mentioned in holy Quran so that the women lives in peaceful and dignified life in the society.

Earlier, Principal, College of Education, Srinagar Prof Parveen Pandit in her welcome address spoke about the objectives of organizing the work shop. She also deliberated upon the significance of women study centre (WSC) of her college which she said is playing a pivotal role in providing a platform for women folk for research work and awareness about the day to day achievements of women at global level. She said self defence is the main lesson being taught to women at WSC besides the women are given training in combating atrocities, if any, being committed on them.

The workshop was also addressed by Secretary Womens Commission, s. Hafiza Muzaffer, Prof. Naseem Rafiabadi, Director Information, Khawaja Farooq Renzu and several eminent scholars and students.
