Having been in the industry for almost a decade and involved in projects all over the world, Swedish born guitarist Jonas Blomqvist has just completed a 10-date tour around India with Bhavana Reddy.
The tour featured a combination of musical and dance performances as well as Jonas and Bhavana conducting songwriting workshops for local high school kids.
Blomqvist elaborates, “We did 3 songwriting workshops for about 1000 high school kids where we had some fun and talked about our songwriting progress.” Both the shows and workshops were hugely popular, getting to play to passionate crowds at a variety of venues including Hard Rock Cafe in Mumbai.
The last half of the tour was dedicated to Bhavana’s India release for the album ‘Tangled In Emotions’. The album features the mega-hit song ‘Smells Like Rain,’ which Jonas co-wrote.
“I am very happy and proud to work with such an amazing talent as Bhavana. She has what it takes to go really far!” gushes Blomqvist.
Well, it appears they make quite the team as their song ‘Smells Like Rain’ went on to be nominated in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition.
It comes as no surprise that Jonas has found comfort in working with Bhavana as he is known for his immense collaborations with artists across genres. As well as being an internationally successful guitarist for Superfix with Kalen Chase of Korn, Jonas has worked with the likes of Rachelle & The Rising, Everwhere and Suns of Defiance. Through these collaborations the depth of Jonas Blomqvist’s musical range has been able to truly shine. As well as guitar Jonas plays the trombone, piano, drums and sings.
During these musical endeavors Jonas has always been a strong songwriter. With the band Everwhere alone, he wrote 22 songs. It was through his songwriting ability that the commercial rock band Second Nature was born, a project he created to write and create songs for other artists to perform alongside him.
He says, “I think what works best for me when writing is to keep writing even if you think it’s not good enough. Always let it flow!” And as for what keeps him inspired? He adds, “I will never lose the child within me that once fell in love with music.”
Jonas is currently based in Los Angeles as lead guitarist for the aforementioned Superflix. With further work scheduled with Bhavana, the debut of an exciting commercial rock project as well as one or two more tours, Jonas has a busy, but impressive 2015 lined up.
