Jammu and Kashmir: Political parties with different ideologies, names and banners and manifestos’ ultimately reduce to fulfilment of vested interests of individuals. Those who could not achieve desired goals preferably opt to switch loyalty from one political party to another. The process does not effect only elective members but also infect even to common voters.
Going by the recently held poll reports in Jharkhand more than 36 candidates switched loyalty after denied mandate to contest by their respective parties. Similar was the case with Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. But in Jammu and Kashmir not only parliament members, legislatures but voters and workers regularly switch loyalty. For the last three months thousands of workers switched loyalty from one political party to another on one or the other pretext.
Provincial President, National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta while deliberating upon the issue said that hundreds of workers and activists from other political inclination joins NC party fold regularly. He said that evidence to entire process is deposited with media personals who stand witness at the time of joining. He said that in democratic set up no bindings are set for any body.
President Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party, Balwant Singh Mankotia said that for merely vested interests one can not shift loyalty. Joining a party on Ideology basis and switching loyalty after a gap of 10 years signifies conviction for interest and not for purpose of politics, Mankotia said and added that the shifting loyalty for minor gains amounts to business but not services to masses.
Political experts were of view that exercise of switching loyalty has become trend for politicians and workers to fulfil their desired goals. But democracy does not mean utilizing liberty in way to demolish the basic ethics of politics. Citing various examples they said that despite political rivalry being temporary, worker and politicians does not hesitate in cutting throats of their rivals for vote politics.
