As reported by official agencies, on Wednesday, an earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitudes knocked Taiwan but reports of casualties or damage are yet to be ascertained. Taiwan lies on a seismically active stretch of the Pacific basin and earthquakes are a frequent feature there. More than 2,400 people died and 50,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged in 1999 by a 7.6 disastrous quake.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 was registered by the U.S.Geological Survey on Wednesday. As per Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau, the epicentre of this earthquake was at a depth of about 15 km (9 miles) close to the area of central Taiwan.
