Taj, Bhalla flag off 4th Jammu Marathon

 Jammu, February 17 (Scoop News) – Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports,  Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture  Raman Bhalla today flagged off 4th Jammu Marathon from M A M Stadium.

 

    The 8.5 kms long marathon passed through BC Road, Amphalla, CPO Chowk, Kachi Chawni, Parade, Shallamar, Gummat, Vivekanand Chowk and Dogra Chowk and culminated at M. A. Stadium. The marathon was divided into Male and Female categories.

 

Speaking on the occasion,  Taj said that aim of such an event is to promote sports activities among the youth. He appreciated the initiative taken by the organizers adding that it is very encouraging event which shows the faith and determination of the people of the State.

 

The Minister asked the officers to seek cooperation of the education and other departments, besides local sports clubs to organize sports events as it would help to promote sports culture among the younger generation and makes them physically and mentally fit.

 

In his address,  Bhalla welcomed the 4th Jammu Marathon organizers and said such occasion helped to channelize the energy of youth for constructive purpose. He said Youth Services and Sports Department is making all out efforts to organize more and more sports events in all districts of the State as it helps to tap the available talent of the youth. He urged the younger generation to participate in co-curricular activities besides academic education.

 

Later,  Taj awarded Ist, Second and third male and female category winners with Rs. 21000/ as first prize, Rs. 11000/- as second prize and Rs. 5100/- as third prize.

 

The 4th Jammu Marathon organized by Board of Development for Sports in India in which a galaxy of stars from the Bollywood, Vice Chairman Other Backward Classes  Kuldeep Verma, Director Youth Services and Sports, S. Jaipal Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police  J P Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic  Shakeel A Baig, Secretary Sports Council,  Dalip Thusoo, Director, Board of Development for Sports in India  Amit Sethi besides hundred of sports lovers participated in the mega event.
