Swat valley: A good will gesture by the Taliban of Swat chapter, the release of the abducted Chinese engineer, the Taliban spokesperson Muslim Khan told the media.
The Taliban insurgents have announced a 10 days cease-fire in the Swat valley of north western Pakistan.
The past peace deals with the insurgents by the N.W.F.P government in past failed due to some unknown reasons.
On the other hand, the provincial government does not believe only in the use of force against the insurgents but it wants to keep the option of talks open.
The Taliban spokesperson also welcomed the government’s decision to introduce the Sharia (Islamic laws) in Swat valley and Malakand agency.
The spokesperson told the media that in view of these developments we announce a unilateral cease-fire but we reserve the right to retaliate to any invasion by the security forces.
The N.W.F.P government was in contact with the Taliban groups in Swat valley and according to media reports, so a treaty is likely to be signed tomorrow by the N.W.F.P chief minister, Amir Haider Khan Hoti in the meeting of Grand National Jirga (Local gathering).
The provincial government is making great efforts to achieve the peace in Swat valley, however, the beautiful lush green valley that has been hosting the tourists around the world, these days its coping with the insurgency and burning in the hell of terrorism.
Maulana Fazalullah, the son in law of Sufi Muhammad, leads the Taliban Swat chapter, in addition, Sufi Muhammad was released last year, after renouncing the militancy.
Moreover, the spokesman told that once the Sharia is imposed the Taliban will lay down their arms.
A broader peace-deal effectively collapsed last year between the provincial government and the Maulana Fazalullah’s activists.
It may re-spark the US criticism over the peace-deals with the Taliban insurgents to give more time to them to regroup and pool their strength.
