Mingora: Swat had been one of the leading districts of N.W.F. P producing different kinds of tasty and juicy fruits but unluckily Taliban insurgency and military operation has destroyed its production as well as the business.
The ongoing military and militants’ clashes have disconnected the valley from rest of the country, which has also affected the fertile economy of once a peaceful valley.
The fruits of apple, peach, plum, apricot and persimmon produced in abundance in the area were rotting, due to law and order and closure of roads leading to other parts of the country.
Fruit production is the main source of income and some 80 % population is dependent on the fruits and vegetables.
The main route of Matta tehsil leading to the fruit orchards has been blocked for the last 25 days due to curfew and destruction of bridges in the area.
They will not be able to feed themselves if the current situation persists, the growers said.
