Mullah Mohammad Omar, the Taliban leader and fugitive has called the capture of the town a minor victory. He had said that celebrating what he deems is a minor victory is very big proof of the weakness of the international forces. The Taliban leader had said that the group was getting stronger by the day.
In the statement, he said that his men will not allow for the “invading” forces to rest during the winter season. This was all directed towards the capture of Musa Qala last week in the Helmand province. This was the only major center in Afghanistan that was in the hands of the Taliban.
He is one of the most-wanted fugitives in Afghanistan at the moment. The leader of the Taliban has been in hiding ever since they were overthrown in 2001.
This statement was released to the news by Afghan Islamic Press which is based in Pakistan.
Mullah Omar had also said no foreign power has ever conquered the country. He adds that the Taliban will continue the fight even through the harsh winter in the country.
“The aggression by the Americans and their allies against Afghanistan and Iraq brought with it economic and financial losses that affected not just occupied states – the aggressors are also suffering,” the Taliban leader had said.
