In an interesting political development in Tamil Nadu, when the 2009 lok sabha elections are round the corner, the on-board meeting between Mr.Arun Kumar, who is in charge of Congress I in Tamil Nadu and the DMDK chief Mr.Vijayakanth, assumes much significance to the chagrin of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr.M.Karunanithi.
At present Congress I is only under the DMK coalition, the other constituents being PMK and the left parties. It is also well known that the alliance won all the 40 seats contested for the Lok Sabha in the year 2004 and at the centre, DMK is a constituent of the UPA ministry.
Whileso, the talks held between Arun Kumar and DMDK leader Mr.Vijayakanth, assumes much significance and a possible polarisation of political parties for the fortcoming election consisting of congress I, DMDK, AIMSK, PMK, the left parties etc.It means that DMK will be isolated.
But Mrs.Sonia Gandhi, the Congress I president is still a strong supporter of the DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu and she is greatful to the 40 MP seats of 2004 election. But one should also consider the points of view floating around.Arun Kumar,in charge of the Tamil Nadu Congress I has so far not met the DMK chief and he would not have ventured to talk with the DMDK chief without the support of the Congress I chief.
Anyhow, there is a strong possibility of a shift and reshuffle in the political alliances for the forthcoming Loksabha elections. Let us wait and see.
