Srinagar, February 01, (Scoop News)-Expressing deep concern at the increased incidents of ceasefire violation on Line of Control (LoC) and the plight of border residents CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Elect Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday urged the leadership of India and Pakistan to intervene in order end the border skirmishes.
In a statement issued here, Tarigami said the thousands of families who live in border areas are living in a pitiable condition because of the ceasefire violations. “Thousands of such families had to leave their homes for safer areas in view of the latest round of ceasefire violations in border villages in Samba and Kathua districts. This should be a matter of serious concern for the heads of two neighboring countries as the people across the borders aspire for developing cordial relations,” the CPI (M) leader observed.
While referring to latest exchange of heavy mortar shelling targeting scores of Border Out Posts (BoPs) and civilian areas along International Border (IB) in Samba and Kathua districts in which many precious lives were lost across the border, Tarigami said the leadership of the two countries must arrest the down slide in border situation which has generated fear and panic among the people there.
The CPI (M) leader said the border skirmishes – whoever is to blame, whatever the cause -risk the prosperity and security of two countries that have far more in common than the areas of suspicion and discard.
He said the silencing of guns along the border had made other important initiatives possible which included the trade and travel across the LoC. “But unfortunately, the incidents of skirmishes and hostilities along the border derail the efforts leading towards formation of better understanding and amity between the two neighbouring countries,” he stressed.
