Tarigami while addressing the protest rally also re-iterated the demand for bringing legislation to ensure social security to the workers of unorganized sector who constitute about 90% of the working force of the country and living in deplorable and sub-human conditions.
He dealt in length the disastrous consequences of the destructive and neo-liberal economic policies by the Central Government implemented since early nineties. “The net result of these policies is accumulation of wealth in few hands thereby rendering vast section of the population hapless without any sustainable source of livelihood. The prices of the essential commodities like food items have risen disproportionately putting working class and lower income group to great hardships”, Tarigami elaborated.
Earlier J& K State Committee of CITU organized a protest rally starting from Divisional Commissioner’s office Jammu passing through Jain Bazar, Kachichowni, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Ragunath Bazar, Hari Market and Indra Chowk against the destructive economic policies of the Government of India viz price rise, non-implementation of labour laws, social security to workers of un-organized sector, stopping retrenchment of workers/employees on the pretext of global recession and stern action against hoarders and black marketers. The protesters carrying flags, banners and placards were shouting slogans against the anti-people economic policies of GOI. The demonstration was led among others by M.Y Tarigami, State President and courted arrests at Indra Chowk Jammu.
Coades, Javaid Ahmad Zarger, Working President, Om Prakash, General Secretary, Sham Prasad Kesar, Treasurer and Nirdosh Uppal, Chief Organizer also addressed the rally. They reiterated the need for early execution of identified power projects viz: Pakaldul, Kiru, Swalakot, Baglihar-II, Rattle and absorption of local work force in the construction of these projects. They also criticized the General Budget 2010-11 for ignoring the plight of ASHA Workers, Mid-day Meal Workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers. The leaders exhorted upon the government to take stern action against the hoarders and black-marketers for creating artificial scarcity of food items leading to disproportionate escalation in its prices. They also said that retrenchment of workers/employees on the pretext of global recession must be stopped immediately.
