Tarigami urges Govt to Come up with Women’s Reservation Bill

Jammu, March 8 (Scoop News) –  CPI (M) Legislator M Y Tarigami has advocated introduction of Women’s Reservation Bill to herald women empowerment and take a lead in the country.

Putting up the demand in the Legislative Assembly today, the legislator said J&K has the distinction of pioneering the land reforms in the country, adding that the Reservation Bill will add another landmark and distinct feature to the State. He said passing such legislation will send positive message about State’s pioneering efforts in the empowerment of fair sex.

The legislator said the perspective of freedom struggle will be realized in full only if government comes up with the Bill and is passed by the State’s legislature. This will pave the way for holistic development of half of the population, he said.

He said the Women’s Reservation Bill is stuck up in the parliament due to irrational logic put by certain parties to stall its passage.

Tarigami said the democratic movement is incomplete as long as women aren’t politically empowered. He said token concessions announced in the budget for women won’t help develop this section in a systematic and holistic manner.
