Srinagar, May 11 (Scoop News)-Terming the continuous detention of youth and political leaders in Srinagar and other parts of valley as atrocious and undemocratic, CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday demanded their immediate release and asked the administration not to adopt suppressive measures including unnecessary restrictions to contain dissent.
In a statement issued here, Tarigami advised the authorities to adopt more humane approach while tackling the angry and misguided youth. The youth, he appealed, should also follow peaceful means to express their concern for justice and democratic rights.
The CPI (M) leader regretted that instead of facilitating a genuine democratic space to the young people, voices of dissent, the administration by way of using harsh measures is choking and stifling the voice of people. He said digging old graves and reopening old cases against youth means the administration is not serious to learn the lessons from past agitations that led to the loss of hundreds of precious lives and incapacitated dozens in valley.
“Using force and arrest as tool to silence the dissent will not only damage and destroy careers of our youth but it will surely prove detrimental results in future,” observed Tarigami while urging the authorities to review its policies and release the youth and political leaders without any delay. He also appealed the youth not to adopt any violent means to convey their point.
