The veteran Marxist leader and the former Chief Minister of West Bengal is in favour of the return of the Bangladesh Author Taslima Nasreen who had left the city of Kolkata on November 22 and now in an undisclosed location in some other part of India.Though Basu is in favour of Taslima’s return to Kolkata, he calls upon the centre to provide the necessary security to her.Taslima thanked Basu and hopes to return to her home in Kolkata.Basu also appreciated the statement and stand of Pranab Mukerji in the Parliament that Taslima is free to live in India as long as she wishes, but without jeopardising and hurting the sentiments of the different religious groups in India.
But Taslima from her undisclosed residence has stated whether she needed the tight security provided by the Indian government. But Basu defended the security provided to Taslima because there are people who think that they would get closer to GOD by killing her.
Following the publication of her book,"Dwikhandita" raising objections to some of the paras of her book violence erupted in Kolkata on Novermber,21, following protests by the followers of All India Minority Forum, calling upon the cancellation of her visa.Immediately Taslin was moved to Rajasthan for security reasons.
It is also to be noted that respecting the sentiments of the objectors, Taslima even called upon her publisher of her controversial book to delete the objectionable portions from her book,"Dwikhandita"
