Tatkal passport holders in abroad are in trouble

Tatkal passport holders from the state residing abroad are facing problems when they attempt to renew them at the Indian embassies. Since most of them left the country after the pre-verification process by a senior IPS or IAS official, the post-verification by Special Branch cops would not have been held.  Consequently, the state police informs embassies who check on the verification status that the passport was not recommended.

"This is a technical problem which is causing trouble for NRIs who got their passports in tatkal scheme," said a senior police officer. Usually in Tatkal scheme, the passport is issued after the pre verification. Then the passport office sends the file in regular process for post verification to the Special Branch.

Usually, it is those who want to leave the country urgently who apply in Tatkal scheme. "When Special Branch cops visit their residential address they find that the applicants are not there," said the police officer. "Then the Special Branch sends a report stating that the candidate was not available and passport was not recommended." Once police informs the embassy that they are not recommended, the passport holders have to make their way to the state to get fresh verification.
