Tawi embankments to be developed: Taj

 

Jammu, March 10 (Scoop News) –  Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control,  Taj Mohi-ud-Din informed the House that embankments of the River Tawi would be developed as was done in Jehlum embankments at Srinagar.

The Minister was replying to a question raised by  Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy on behalf of Ajat Shatru Singh in Legislative Council toady.

He said the plan to preserve and protect the Tawi embankment, project namely Master Plan for Flood Protection Works of Ravi Tawi D/S City Bridge under the “Flood Management Programme” at a cost of Rs. 22.82 crore has been sanctioned by the union Minister of Water Resources, Government of India for construction of 32000 m earthen embankment and 107 crate studs against studs stand completed ending February 2011. The project was taken in hand in the year 2008 and the works are in progress.  

He said a new project namely construction of protection of works at D/S of Sidhra Bank of river Tawi for protection of Sidhra town and adjoining areas costing Rs. 14.66 crore has been recently sanctioned by the MOWR, against which Rs. 375 lakhs stand released as central assistance for the year 2010-11 under FMP. He said one more project namely FPW in river Tawi for Kattal battal U/S Sidhra Bridge costing Rs. 11.33 crore has been recently sanctioned by the NABARD.

The Minister said another important project namely Design and Construction of Auto Mechanically operated gated barrage with Sluice Gates across River Tawi with RCC base, Sipllway, Gangway, Guide Bunds etc for creation of pondage at Belicharana, Jammu on EPC basis, has been approved by the Government at an estimated cost of Rs. 70 crores. The total cost of the project including allied works would be Rs. 125 crores. He said the multipurpose project aims at the creation of about two km long lake, beautification of Tawi front up side and down side the main Tawi bridge. The project also includes creation of recreational facilities, promotion of eco-tourism and recharge of ground water thereby giving inputs economy of the Jammu.

154 water schemes going on in Kathua:   Taj

Jammu, March 10- Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control,  Taj Mohi-ud-Din informed the House that the number of projects executed in various schemes in district Kathua include 154 ongoing schemes out of which, 105 are taken under NRDWP and 49 schemes under NABARD and LIC. 

The Minister was replying to a question raised by  Subash Chander Gupta in Legislative Council.

He said 16 new water supply projects have been also formulated under NABARD loan assistance and would be considered for submission as per the district wise ceilings over the years. He said for Hiranagar constituency, 24 water supply schemes are ongoing under various programmes of which as many as 15 schemes are under NRDWP and 9 schemes under district plan.

Infiltration plants across State being re-mapped: Taj

Jammu, March 10- Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control,  Taj Mohi-ud-Din informed the House that all the filtration plants of the State are being re-mapped and steps would also be taken to increase their capacity to provide safe drinking water facilities to the people.   

The Minister was replying to a question raised by  Altaf Ahmad Wani in Legislative Council.

He said there some filtration plants which have become non-functional are dealt with under the programme revamping of filtration plants. He said the department has already taken up these non-functional plants under the water quality component of the NRDWP for revamping. 

The Minister said that all the uncovered areas would be provided tube wells and also new water supply schemes be constructed to provide them safe drinking water. He said the areas of Dachan Pora and Khourpora in Pahalgam constituency are being provided drinking water from the already constructed filtration plants of various schemes and there is no need for construction of big filtration plants as on date.

No daily rated, casual/CP workers engaged:   Taj

Jammu, March 10- Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control,  Taj Mohi-ud-Din informed the House that except 33 persons engaged on need basis by the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Jammu, no daily rated workers, casual labours /CP workers have been engaged on contractual or need basis by this department for the last two years. 

The Minister was replying to a question raised by  Mohammad Rashid Qureshi in Legislative Council.

He said regarding district Kupwara and Poonch, no such engagement has been made in these two districts during last two years.

Panel constituted to control noise pollution: Mian Altaf

Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Mian Altaf informed the House that a 3-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Chairman, Pollution Control Board comprising its members as Magistrate and Police Officer of their respective areas to give suggestions how to control the noise pollution in twin capital cities of the State. 

The Minister was replying to a question by  B. R. Kundal in Legislative Council today.

He said the committee has been asked to submit the report within 10 days. He said the committee was constituted in light of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the Government to keep the noise pollution within the permissible limits.

He said to keep the noise pollution under permissible limits; the Transport Department has already directed to all commercial vehicle owners, drivers to replace pressure, double tone, multi tone and shrill horns from their vehicles by horns emitting permissible decibel levels of sound. He said checking squads have also been constituted by the motor vehicle department to check noise pollution.

No encroachment taking place: Shabir

Minister of State for Forests, Environment and Ecology,  Shabir Ahmad Khan informed the House that no forest encroachment has taken place during last two years in the State.

The Minister was replying to a question by  Ravinder Kumar Sharma in Legislative Council today.

He said whenever the department receives complaint regarding encroachment; immediate action is taken to retrieve the area. He said the forest area under encroachment is 14, 359.62 hectares out of which 1009.27 hectares has been retrieved till date.

Supplementaries were raised by  Altaf Ahmad Wani, Syed Asgar Ali,  M. Y. Taing and  Ajay Sadhotra.

Measures initiated to contain overloading: Shabir

Minister of State for Transport,  Shabir Ahmad Khan informed the House that the steps taken by the Government for effective control and elimination of overloading menace are registration of criminal cases against the violators including owners found indulging in overloading, public awareness, camps regarding traffic rules, cancellation of licences, route permits, registration and fine to the drivers involved in repeated overloading in different routes of the State. 

The Minister was replying to a question by  S. Trilocah Singh in Legislative Council today.

He said an amount of Rs. 50 lakh has been approved during this year for installation of four weigh bridges at Udhampur, Lowermunda, Sonamarg and Upshi (Leh) to detect and check the menace of overloading.

Replying to the supplementaries raised by  Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy and Syed Asgar Ali, the Minister informed the House that to control the overloading in erstwhile Doda district which has become accident prone area in last two to three years, 34 new SRTC buses were allotted to the district to ease the overloading. He said more buses would also be provided to the district to check the menace. 

Mobile ration cards to nomads soon: Shabir

Minister of State for Transport,  Shabir Ahmad Khan informed the House that mobile ration cards would soon be issued to nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State enabling them to get their ration across the State during their movement.

The Minister was replying to a question by  Nizam-ud-Din Khatana in Legislative Council today.

He said ration is supplied to all the ration ticket holders including Gujjar and Bakerwals on the basis of census-2001. He said nomadic Gujjar and Bakerwal families are supplied ration out of to overall savings of the division in which they are located.
