A 30-year old taxi driver has been arrested by the police for killing a 53-year old woman over the sum N18,000.
The suspect, Dayo Oluwafemi, , allegedly tricked the deceased, Fausat Ajini to come to his family farm to buy cocoa. On the way, he dragged her out of the cab and sliced her throat. He later buried her and made off with the money.
In his confessional statement to the police, the suspect said: “Yes, I lied to her to come and buy cocoa on my family farm. On the way, I asked her to bring the money and when she said she won’t give me the money until she saw the cocoa, I dragged her out of the taxi, and as she struggled with me, I took the knife she had in her basket and sliced her throat. After she died, I went to a nearby village to borrow a hoe, dug the ground and buried her.”
It was learnt that after he had buried the deceased, he drove to Oshogbo and parked at Ita Olokun area. He later went to a bar where he had some drinks with his two friends, to celebrate the new year.
The taxi driver told his wife that he was travelling to Sagamu with his children when the police at Oja-Oba divisional headquarters arrested him after the incident. He is being detained at the State CID, Oshogbo.
The Oshogbo Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joshua Olayemi said: “The suspect blamed his action on a curse by his step-mother whom he claimed said he would be moving from one trouble to another.”
It was further gathered that the suspect had earlier been convicted in December 2005 for raping a housewife.
“He would soon be charged to court for murder,” the police spokesman said.
