Rajouri/Jammu, September 13 (Scoop News)-Terming it a conspiracy against a language which remained official for 651 year in India, Tehreek Baqaie Urdu (TBU) organisation has said that UPSC’s recent decision to remove Arabic and Persian from Civil Services examinations will affect lakhs of people of India particularly those who aspire to appear in UPSC examination with Arabic and Persian subjects.
Addressing TBU members, General Secretary and Spokesman Zakir Malik Bhallesi said that although Sanskrit is mother of Urdu but Arabic and Persian languages have played a vital role in the development and promotion of Urdu and is why TBU is serious on the issue of removal of Persian and Arabic from UPSC examination subject lists. He has supported the signature campaign of BGSBU faculty and students which is led by Dr Shamas Kamal Anjum.
Terming it a shocking decision of UPSC, Zakir Malik Bhallesi said that between 1206 and 1857, Persian was India’s official languages and even Arabic had great impact on Indian languages, literature and history. He said that their removal from the UPSC cannot be justified on the ground that these are foreign languages. He said that for the first time in Independent India, an organisation like UPSC has played joke with Arabic and Persian language. He said that perhaps Commission did not understand the significance of these languages. He added that although a try was made during Narasimha Rao government when Arabic, Persian and Pali languages were removed from UPSC competitive examinations but the decision was taken back following sharp reactions.
Expressing surprise, Zakir Malik said that when English which came to India two centuries ago could become the official language, how would Arabic and Persian which have been the official languages of India for many centuries not be promoted and given place in UPSC examinations. He added that alike the British government which had decided to kill India languages, the government and UPSC now seems to have decided to kill its own language and culture. He added that Urdu, Hindi and Sanskrit would remain incomplete without Arabic and Persian.
Supporting the movement of re-inclusion of these languages in the UPSC list launched by Dr Shamas Kamal Anjum , HoD of Arabic Department of BGSB University, Malik said that Tehreek will provide all support to those who will come forward for this cause. He made an appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and manage the re-inclusion of Arabic and Persian subjects in the UPSC list. He said that otherwise this will hurt crores of aspirants of UPSC examination who have opted these subjects.
