28-year-old Cara Dickey, a teacher at South Buffalo Charter School disappeared Monday after alleged discipline. One of Cara Dickey’s students went missing at the same time, prompting a county-wide search for the two. Today both Cara Dickey and her 14-year-old student Nicolas G. DeJesus were found, in separate locations. Both are now in police custody.
Cara Dickey was suspended from her position just prior to the disappearances. Nicolas is allegedly safe and out of harm’s way. Cara Dickey is married with three children, 3 children: MaCaleb 8, Mattingly 4, and Marley 2.
On her professional profile for South Buffalo Charter School Cara Dickey states, "I have 2 dogs: Maris (an American Staff Terrier/Neapolitan Mastiff mix) and Munson (a Cocker Spaniel mix)" and that her interests include "skiing, attending Sabres games, watching the Pittsburgh Penguins, NY Rangers & the NY Yankees, also playing with my children."
Cara Dickey has not been formally charged and it is not clear why she was suspended from her position. Cara Dickey graduated from Buffalo State College with a BS in Social Studies, and gained a degree in Educational Leadership from Walden University.
After a wide search, Nicolas was found in the Hamburg mall, and Cara Dickey was found sleeping in her car in Springville. She is described at 5’2", weighing 130 pounds, with black hair and a nose ring.
The school is planning a press conference at 3:30 Tuesday.
