I have approxiamately 3 hours away from the hospital and awake to the world to perform all my personal time activities and I’ve noticed that I’ve started to feel trapped, cornered, suppressed, constrained, stifled…by time. All the signs of Temporal Claustrophobia, a viciously benign and unfortunately banal disease.
The body requires a certain amount of down time for itself, time for exercise, learning, writing, laughter, silence, company, separation, and relaxation in order to prepare the mind and body for the PC requirements and high energy lifestyle of the day. Without these outlets, the body and mind react in destructive ways…a short fuse develops as the wick is always running dry, a agitation with the little things like someone jumping on the elevator when it’s about to close, a paucity of laughter, and inward rather than outward existence, a loss of trivial gregarious phrases and interactions, and overall loss of spontaneous thought and sexual drives.
These are the symptoms of temporal claustrophobia, and I imagine that someone reading this has it as well. If so, I appreciate you using some of those valuable minutes to read this blog because I know how precious they are.
