With a view to allow him to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Tribunal had revoked the suspension on the fast bowler for a period of one month, which means the suspension would again come into force after his participation in the above matches were over.
The decision came in the wake of request of his lawyers who had submitted that the IPL was not willing to allow the bowler to take part in its 20/20 competition if the ban persisted. They wanted the ban should at least be suspended if not lifted.
The PCB Tribunal would take a final decision on the appeal of Akhtar against the ban on 4th June 008 which basically relates to several disciplinary breaches which has a bearing on representing Pakistan and also playing Cricket at home.
In the meanwhile, Mr.Lalit Modi, Chairman and Commissioner of IPL confirmed that his contract stands and he has asked the cricketer to take the first flight to India to participate in the series.
