Terry Childs was arrested Sunday after he changed the codes for San Francisco’s FiberWAN computer system, the network that handles city payroll files, jail bookings, official city emails and other documents. Childs is refusing to give officials the passwords to access the network.
Terry Childs is currently in custody and being held on $5 million bail. He is accused of improperly tampering with computer systems and causing a denial of service that city officials say caused millions of dollars in damages and posed a threat to data security.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Terry Childs’ employer, the Department of Technology of San Francisco, recently reprimanded him for poor performance. Officials don’t have any clear motive as to why Terry Childs sabotaged San Francisco’s networks.
