Texas Rangers outfielder Alex Rios placed on the shelf for the rest of the season due to a thumb injury

Anaheim California. The Texas Rangers on Sunday have placed outfielder Alex Rios, 33, on the shelf for the remainder of the 2014 regular baseball season due to an injury to the right hand of the outfielder that has not healed.

Rios has 11 years of service in the Major Leagues. Rios will be a free agent at the end of the regular season. It is highly unlikely that Rios will return to the Texas Rangers roster next baseball season. As a free agent Rios will be able to negotiate a contract to play in the Major Leagues with another baseball team that could his services.

The Texas Rangers have had one of their worst seasons in the history of their franchise since they moved to Arlington Texas  from Washington D C at the end of the 1971 baseball season.

Rios has not played in a baseball game with the Rangers since September 4, 2014. The injury to the Rangers outfielder is one of the reasons the team is not in contention to make the playoffs this season. The Rangers have had injuries to many of their key players that have prevented them from helping the team improve their record of 61-93 in the 2014 Major League Baseball season.

It remains to be seen if any Major League Baseball team is interested in hiring Rios to play baseball for their team next season or will Rios retire from the game of baseball after the end of the 2014 baseball season.
