Thailand decides to allow RP boxers to join tourney

Thailand’s previous announcement disqualifying RP boxers from participating in the Beijing Olympics qualifying round was overturned by the same official who said to be misquoted by the media in an interview recently. The head of Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand, Gen. Thaweep Jantharoj have assured the RP delegation, headed by Manny Lopez that the six entries from the Philippines will be allowed to join in the boxing tournament this coming Jan. 24 in Bangkok.

Gen, Thaweep Jantharoj reasoned out that it was the hotel accommodation that caused the misunderstanding. He explained that the Philippine delegation have requested 15 rooms for the entourage, and according to the General, the availability of rooms is limited because only one hotel was reserved to all participating delegates.

Shallow as it may sound, the explanation given by Thai officials was obviously defensive because they knew first hand that their action was totally wrong in the beginning. Thailand, as member of the International Amateur Boxing Association should’ve acted properly and in good faith.
