Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, has cleared the Attorney General [Ghani Patail] and The Inspector General of Police [Musa Hassan] from allegations of fabricating evidences in the “Black-Eye incident” involving Anwar Ibrahim, now the Opposition Leader. The Black-eye incident happened in1988 when Anwar was then, in Police’s custody.
The allegation against them was stated in July 2008 and a report was made by Anwar to the Police. The Police then handed the case over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission {MACC} for investigation.
Among the people investigated were Ghani Patail [the Attorney General], Musa Hassan {the Inspector General Of Police} and Anwar.
Way back in 1988, when Anwar Ibrahim had a fall-out with Dr Mahathir Mohamad [the Prime Minister], he was charged with other offences. Anwar was arrested when he held demonstrations after demonstrations in the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. It was while in police’s custody that he was assaulted by Rahim Noor, then the Inspector General of Police.
A court case followed. The Investigating Officer was none other than Musa Hassan and the Prosecuting Officer was Ghani Patail.
When the MACC finished their investigation the file was handed over to the Solicitor’s Office for further action. The Solicitor’s Office appointed a three member panel to ensure transparency and fair deliberation. Members of the panel were all former High Court Judges.
The three man panel then voted 3-0 and cleared Musa Hassan of any wrongdoing. As for the AG, Ghani Patail, the panel voted 2-1 and with majority voice also cleared him.
Of course, Anwar Ibrahim said that it was to be expected.
