To make up for the lack of connections on the actual unit, Fujitsu offers an $80 docking station that adds four extra USB ports, a VGA out. Inspiron 6400 Battery, and an Ethernet jack (there’s also a small portable dongle for using an Ethernet cable with the U810 itself). The dock also holds the system at a raised angle for easy viewing (which we put to good use this past weekend referencing online mojito recipes with the U810 sitting in its dock on the kitchen counter).
The ATVM loans must be repaid eventually by automakers and battery makers. However, the DoE grants do not have to be repaid. Michigan has also offered Toshiba PA3522U-1BAS battery makers some big tax cuts in hopes of luring business into the state.
“These are battery companies that would have been here (in Michigan) to invest in, but for the credits from our initiatives to lure them here,” Granholm said.
Granholm and Doug Parks, senior vice president of new market development for the Michigan Economic Development Corp., said the state had a “unique opportunity right now” to build a new industry of large-size battery makers since no company had yet developed in that field.
Awards for A123 and Johnson Controls-Saft would be a boost for Michigan, ToughBook CF-50 battery, whose economy has been racked by the collapse of the U.S. auto sector. Both firms want to expand manufacturing in Michigan. In April Chrysler selected A123 to supply lithium-ion battery cells, packs and modules for electric cars that it expects to have in showrooms in late 2010.
Fortunately, it’s easy to change the Power button’s function, which can be programmed to make the laptop sleep, Fujitsu FPCBP 160 battery, shut down, or hibernate. Here’s how Vista users can make the change:
As you may have noticed, this screen also lets you change the functions for the Sleep button (if your laptop has one) and for what happens when you close the laptop’s lid. So you can kill a couple of button-birds with this particular settings stone. Special thanks to reader Jeff for suggesting this handy tip!
Like any self-respecting desktop replacement, this laptop uses its monstrous size (it measures 16 by 12.6 by 2 inches and weighs 11.68 pounds) to accommodate a gaggle of ports. Crammed around the sides are a four-pin FireWire port, four USB plugs, an eSATA/USB combo port, FPCBP 155 battery,an ExpressCard slot, and an eight-in-one Media Card reader. The M17x also makes room for DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA video-outs. A bunch of audio-out jacks for external surround sound provides a pretty strong indication that you won’t be tempted to stick with the two built-in speakers.
