Today I witnessed what I would term as an awakening by the peace loving citizens of Banglore.
At 6.30 pm in the evening, when the evening traffic was at its peak with office goers going home, tired after a days work, and the traffic inching along, the traffic was completely stopped due to a politician passing by.
With the skies threatening rain, no one was amused as traffic was stopped for a good ten minutes. Suddenly a siren was heard and the pilot vehicle sped past, followed by the usual white car of a politician.
‘Bastard’, I heard a motorist next to me yell in the local Kannada language, and he pressed his horn in protest. Another followed and another. In a few seconds almost everyone joined in a spontaneous and angry vent of support and disgust.
The politician could not have heard any of it in his air-conditioned, bullet proof car that was traveling at 70 kmph, but for me and the rest of the tired motorists, the show of support was an outlet to our frustration and is an ominous sign that these politicians cannot push the public with their pompous lifestyle.
For once the harsh sound of horns was music to everyone’s ears.
