Taste of Country.Com has reported that some new evidence is surfacing about the shooting death of Wayne Mills. The Tennessean had reported that Chris Ferrell told the police that Mills had tried to rob and kill him. The details of Ferrell’s side of the story is being made public…a police officer testified Ferrell said, “He had to do it for self-defense.”
Ferrell said he has been receiving death threats since the November 2013 shooting of Mills; and a private investigator had found some new findings that may help to validate and prove his story.
He was released on a $150,000 bond on Monday December 16, 2013 after a long-lasting court hearing revealing newer details concerning the shooting of the singer; and Ferrell’s own claim of the shooting occurring because of self-defense.
The police initially reported the two men had argued over Mills smoking in a part of the bar that was for non-smokers. Ferrell’s attorney hired a private investigator that discovered a bullet lodged in a wall of the bar which police missed during their initial investigation.
Two guns were also found on tables in the bar when the police arrived; and they also found a trail of blood leading from the parking lot to the front door of the bar, broken glass, a loose dog and Mills, breathing, but unconscious, just inside the bar’s door.
Ferrell testified the incident occurred about 45 minutes after he, Mills and some others had posed for a picture with Shooter Jennings. According to Saving Country Music reports Jennings and his manager had already left the bar before the shooting occurred. Jennings, Mills and Ferrell attended the George Jones tribute show two nights prior to the shooting, but the accuracy of this report could not be verified by tasteofcountry.com.
It was reported that Ferrell’s bond has been reduced by half as his attorney argued that after-all Ferrell could have run after the shooting. Ferrell’s past history or prior arrests and family ties in other states does make him a flight risk; and the amount was set higher than the $25,000 David Raybin had requested.
Ferrell has been ordered to give up his gun collection and to check in with his bail bondsman on a regular basis.
Ferrell was released Monday evening.
