At last, I feel satisfied that at least one local TV station ( read news channel) in Calcutta tries to torn up their news structure. The newly launched Mahua Khabor wants some variety in their news casts.Their efforts may or may not pay off, but it is encouraging to see that the Bengali language news channel is trying something new for a change, less formal and more interactive in nature. After all, a TV station which is not a market leader in news has little to lose in experimenting with unconventional news structure and newscasts.Anchors want to interact with viewers by giving their e-mail IDs and encourage them to send feed backs. The channel can get kudos for concentrating on hyper local news.
I find a local TV station which tries to torn up the traditional news structure and news casts. As an online journalist, I do believe that in the edge of multi media journalism, digital correspondents, solo journalists, local news channels have to change and try new things. It is high time, that local news channels in Calcutta should have the guts to shade their tag as ‘regional’ and to compete with national channels by overhauling their news casts and story angle.
