Baguio City – The waste segregation that was implemented by the Mayor last month in the City and in the neighborhoods was a failure. The compliance rate of waste segregations wasn’t enough to mitigate the looming garbage crisis. Though the City government allowed the people to gradually follow the implementing guidelines in the proper disposal of their refuse for months, the people still failed to manage and segregate their wastes as agreed upon. The hardheadedness of the citizens contributed to the growing garbage crisis in the city. The Mayor’s warning to penalize all violators hasn’t done yet. There’s no seriousness on the part of the Mayor as far as his Administrative Order is concerned. The partially closed “open-dumpsite” of the city is again being used for all the garbage of the city and the neighborhoods. These actions of the city government and the uncooperative attitude of the communities caused a great disservice to the good image of the city as tourists’ destination and to the environment as a whole.
