As the Democratic primary contest has ended, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois had emerged the victor. Now, Obama is the presumed Democratic nominee. Now, it will be between Obama and presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. McCain has been expecting Obama to come out on top for quite a while now.
It is obvious as McCain has been attacking Obama before the end of the Democratic primary. He did not pay one bit of attention to Senator Hillary Clinton of New York. As soon as the Democratic primary has ended, McCain focused on the general election.
Obama ran against a formidable opponent, Clinton. Clinton is the wife to former US President Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton had spent eight years as the US First Day during the Bill Clinton years in office. She had all sorts of advantages over Obama. In short, Clinton could have crushed Obama in the Democratic contest. But, it was Obama who had dealt damage to Clinton instead.
Hillary had Bill at her side. Soon, everything turned into vital threats for Hillary Clinton’s campaign. As a result, Clinton’s campaign struggled to remain afloat as Obama kept getting more help and more funding.
In short, Clinton was left very vulnerable. One, not many people seemed fuzzy about the idea of another Clinton presidency. Not many people are liking the pattern where this is going.
There was the presidency of George H.W. Bush, then there was the presidency of Bill Clinton, and then there was the presidency of George W. Bush. After that, there would be the possibility of a president Hillary Clinton. As a result, not many people seemed that enthusiastic about it; except for the Hillary Clinton supporters.
Pollsters wanted a “real” change.
Clinton voted to allow Bush to invade Iraq in 2003. Last year, more people have seemed to be frustrated with Iraq. This had severely hurt Clinton’s bid for the US Presidency.
Assistance from Bill did not help much. Many have said that help from Bill had made things worse. Many have said that Bill was out of rhythm with everybody else. For those that have seen Bill Clinton on TV, he seemed a bit angrier and vengeful.
Bill’s actions had caused Hillary to lose support amongst African-Americans. Losing that support is not good because it is a vital bloc of the Democratic Party.
Clinton’s campaign was full of holes. Obama’s campaign had hired better people. It would seem that Obama had done his research in finding people to work his campaign. Clinton picked her loyalists; many of them have had their share of controversies.
Obama ran a tight campaign while Clinton ran a shaky campaign. Despite winning in major states, Clinton’s campaign was rocked to the core twice. Also, Clinton did not seem to take the time to research the DNC delegate rules. Obama’s campaign played by the rules and he is the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Due to the DNC delegate rules, a quick victory is not going to happen. Clinton seemed to expect a fast victory. In short, Clinton played recklessly. Clinton made the same mistake as former NYC Mayor and former GOP hopeful Rudy Giuliani did.
Clinton focused on the major states. In the GOP contest, Giuliani focused only on Florida. Giuliani was preparing for the major states. He lost in Florida and eventually dropped out.
In short, Clinton walked into a political jungle with all sorts of dangerous animals and poisonous plants. Each misstep could have been Clinton’s last in the Democratic race.
Clinton got careless and it cost her. She had damaged herself. McCain and the Republican National Committee (RNC) did not have to lift a finger. While Clinton damaged her own campaign, McCain and the RNC could focus on Obama.
