Melbourne: The legend of Cricket, Sir Don Bradman’s bat which he used in his first test match got a record price of $1,21,500 at auction on Wednesday. The buyer’s name was undisclosed and the bat was signed by the entire Australian and Enlish team of the year 1928-29 which won the series 4-1.
“This is a record price for a cricket bat and there were several bidders, all of them within Australia, hoping to win the auction,” asaid a spokeswoman for Melbourne’s Leski Auctions said.
This bad didnt see much action in the Brisbane first test in 1928-29 — where Bradman scored just 18 and 1 in England’s 675-run win.
He was dropped after a worrying debut, and later he donated the bat to a organisation run by sydney newspaper to raise funds for a children’s hospital.
