The Curse

In the later years of American domination over the Philippines, the country’s independence movement started to awaken the nationalistic pride of the people. The then commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon initiated the move to propel the country towards total independence.

And because of his eagerness to rally support from the people, he announced a nationwide statement that changed the history of the Philippines since then. His ambiguous statement which says “it is better for the Filipinos to run the Philippines like hell, than to run by the Americans like heaven,” literally became a curse up to this time.

The Philippines never recovered since the curse was uttered. Poverty and hunger are plaguing the nation. Illiteracy makes the people subservient to their elite masters. The government is forever afflicted with untreatable cancer of graft and corruption. The crooks in the society infest the system. The powers that be holds hostage the uneducated masses.

The electoral, political and the economic systems are decaying beyond repair. Syndicates, mobsters, criminals, drug lords, warlords, hoodlums in robe, terrorists and insurgency control the country in style. The curse is all over the Philippine islands. There’s no sign of easing or extirpating the curse unless the Philippines delineate good and evil.
