In researching the life of one of Arizona’s greatest senators – Barry M. Goldwater, I ran across an interesting exchange he had one day with General Curtis “Bombs Away” La May in 1963-65 time frame. One that has had me scratching my head ever since as I sought to look into the particulars of this situation.
“I think at Wright -Patterson, if you could get into certain places, you would find out what the Air Force and the government does know about UFO’s (“Unidentified Flying Objects”). Reportedly, a spaceship landed. It was all hushed up. I called Curtis LeMay and said “General, I know we have a room at Wright Patterson where you put all this secret stuff. Can I go in there? I’ve never heard General LeMay get mad, but he got madder than hell at me, cussed me out, and said “Don’t ever ask me that question again” – Senator Barry Goldwater on CNN’s Larry King Show, Oct 1, 1994.
According to another report LeMay said to the senator:
“Hell no! And, not only no but, if you ask me again, I’ll have you court marshaled”
It should be remembered that Goldwater was not only a sitting U.S. Senator at the time, but a retired Air Force general as well.

Then in a 1981 letter to researcher Lee Graham, Goldwater recalls:
“(I) have long ago given up acquiring access to the so called “Blue Room” at Wright- Patterson, as I have had one long string of denials from chief after chief. So I have given up…This thing has gotten so highly classified, it is just impossible to get anything on it.”
