The Dirt, Filth and Ugliness of Typical Kenyans

It is only in Kenya where a Pastor will host a remarkable bash to shower blessings on a brand new-stolen car of one of his devoted church members, praise the ‘saint of God’, label him a role model and even recommend him to his team of beautiful deaconesses.

It is only in Kenya where merit, educational credentials and an exceptional grade does not guarantee you a job of your dream. The failures with connections and strings are bound to thrive and are our perennial bosses and employers.

It is only in Kenya where there exists an ominous difference between winning an election and the counting of the votes. Just like in the case of the infamous ‘mlolongo’ era, the losers are widely declared the ultimate victors and the distraught loosers are encouraged to take a trot to the nearby court of law (unfortunately another house riddled with endless bureaucracies orchestrated and perpetuated by a host of die-hard merchants of impunity and runaway corruption).

It is only in Kenya where every government employee is ever striving to loot as much as time and circumstances will allow them. And if you dare stand on their way, they have a dozen ways of eliminating you.

It is only in Kenya where mere watchmen and office messengers drive limousines and own massive bungalows. They are the ones who take their kids abroad for specialized education and their mysterious source of income is only whispered in the dark corridors of Nairobi, Mombasa and the devil knows where else.

It is only in Kenya where men and women in uniform who are under the oath of protecting the property and lives of fellow Kenyans, ironically stage dozens of generous armed robberies. Whenever called upon to thwart a siege, they won’t hesitate to walk away with a sizable chuck of the ‘loot’. If cornered by the press and the media, they encourage whoever has the evidence to pay a visit to one of our crippled court of justice.

Despite all the filth, the dirt and ugliness of what I like calling a typical Kenyan, we are reminded every five seconds via the social media and other platforms that we are one. One gigantic tribe without blemish and so innocent as well.
