The enforcement of Islamic Sharia is not Taliban’s agenda: Pak Information Minister

Peshawar, Pakistan: The Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the Islamic Sharia is not Taliban’s agenda.

He was talking to the news channels here in the provincial capital Peshawar he said the enforcement of Sharia is not the agenda that the Taliban are persuading.

The Pakistani parliament passed the Nizam-e-Adl regulation, NAR 2009, and the Qazis were appointed and at last Darul Qaza (Islamic Supreme Judiciary) was also established in Malakand division.

We have fulfilled the demands of the Taliban and now there is no need to patrol the streets of Swat, display of arms and challenging the writ of the government that signifies the Taliban’s agenda is different, they want something else.

While responding to a question about the Buner and Lower Dir operation, he said the Pakistani security forces are just retaliating to Taliban attacks in the area.

On the other hand, Pakistani security forces kept pounding the Taliban hideouts in Buner today with the help of gunship helicopters and jet fighters.

The government is trying to establish the camps to accommodate the half a million refugees that are likely to move towards peaceful areas from Swat, Buner and Lower Dir areas.

The Pakistani President Asif Ali Zaradri is in Washington these days and today he addressed a joint press briefing with U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and his Afghan counterpart President Hamid Karzai.

However, the U.S, Secretary of State said the Pakistan, Afghanistan and United States share the common enemy.
