It was in the late 60’s when extremism started to pull its popularity among the people in the different sectors of society. The Philippines was then the hot-bed of social strife. Clash of ideology started to divide the people that bring more anarchy to the country. And because of the growing dissent in the people’s mind, a borrowed ideology from outside the Philippines was born. Jose Maria Sison, a University professor founded the Communist Party of the Philippines in the style of Karl Marx and later applied the Maoist principle of people’s struggle. Joma, as he is popularly known is a nationalist in his own right. His ideology brought him to the pedestal of being a hero to his men who are continuously fighting for their lost cause. His ideology of social equality were tremendously affected and gradually relegated to a spent force of quixotic struggle. Western countries branded Joma and his party as a terrorist organization. And because of his status, the Netherlands where he is based finally nabbed the professor and was booked for questioning and for possible indictment of alleged crimes in the Philippines. Jose Maria Sison the professor and idealist is now the fallen comrade.
