The former Nepal King Gyanendra began his life as a commoner

The former Nepal King Gyanendra on Thursday began life as a commoner after leaving his sprawling palace home and army of servants for the last time.

He will have to adjust to living in a former hunting lodge on the outskirts of the capital after leaving  Narayanhiti palace in the back of a black Mercedes with his wife on late Wednesday.

The former Nepal King quit the palace amidst cheers from the people, signifying the end of the 240 year old monarchy. The former king said that he has assisted in and respected the verdict of the people and added that he would not leave his country.

Narayan Wagle, the editor of the Kantipur Nepali language Daily who watched the address said that it was a ‘graceful’ end to the world’s last Hindu Monarchy and the king had exited gracefully and peacefully and his message focused on garnering sympathy from Nepali people in the future.

The former King Gyanendra also refuted the charges that he was behind the massacres that took place in the year 2001.he became the King when Dipendra, the then crown prince killed most of his family including the king and the queen in a drink and drug fuelled rage after being prevented from marrying the woman he loved. Finally Dipendra shot himself dead that paved the way for Gyanendra to become a king.
