Love is the Royal road to reach God, God is in the heart of each one. Devotion is the soul of religion,’ Kabir taught. He repeatedly said than Ram and Rahim were not two entities, but are one and the same.
The founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak was a contemporary of Kabir Das
He was born in a place called Talawandi in west Punjab. (Now it is in Pakistan). Mata –tripta and Mehata Kalu were his parents. He stressed the notion of unity of religion and religious tolerance. He wanted to end the clashes between the Hindus and the Muslims. There is only one god and truth is God.
One must get initiated by Guru (teacher) and learn lessons of Bhakti (devotion). Bhakti alone will help salvation was the core of his teachings. He advised to give up deceitful life, caste feelings, selfishness, untruthfulness and violence. He tried to bring about Hindu –Muslim unity while condemning Babur’s bigotry. Both Hindus and Muslims became his followers. The compilation of the words of the saints called `Guru Granth Saheb’ became the center of their veneration. In the Gurudwars of the Sikhs, this holy book is worshipped. Later, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Govind Singhji turned Sikhs into warriors to fight religion. He initiated them to the life of warriors called Khalsa.
