My top tip for the graduating class of 2013 is to “Be true to yourself”. There are so many ways to try to fit in, be successful, or financially secure. If you try to look good on the outside for others to see you as prosperous, remember that this is a façade. The real you needs to hold firm to a set of values which you promote in your life without others comments to distract you from having integrity. The real you is inside.
It is important to abide by the laws of society, pay your bills on time, and get a job to support yourself, on the other hand, do not sell yourself short that you do not have the talent or ability to find your gift and passionately pursue your goal of creating your dreams.
Our society views people from their outward appearances. We do that too, when we have no inner value to embrace. Interestingly, your inner worth comes from following your inspiration and being yourself. The more you focus on your passion of who you are, others in time will respond with respect and admiration that you are living your own life. The freedom that comes from not being in bondage to the influences around you is joyous.
Only you can decide your course of action. Your behavior will determine your feelings. You have the ability to choose between a life of burden and oppression by listening to others, society, and books, or determining to follow your heart. This path is not easy at times; still the results of inner peace, happiness, and contentment are great gifts to give yourself.
This graduation gift keeps giving through out your life. The reward you reap from “Being true to yourself”, are an inner knowing that you are living your own life just the way you choose. The courage you took in your life to live and to trust yourself offers others an example to do the same. You are responsible for your happiness, inner success, and self-respect; that is your security and birthright.
