Ionized water has been touted to have therapeutic properties. Although some say believe that these benefits of ionized water are a result of pseudoscience, there may be some advantages, as well.
The first among those is that ionized water is a natural antioxidant. An antioxidant gets rid of free radicals that are responsible for aging. Since approximately 70 percent of our body weight consists of water, it is a good idea to find out what kind of water is the most beneficial.
Technically speaking, ionized water has a negative ORP. By producing hydroxyl ions, ionized water helps to generate O2. In this way, harmful free radicals are neutralized and this results in significantly higher energy levels. It will also take care of you by correcting your body’s acid/ alkaline balance, hydrating tissues. Hence, on the whole, ionized water assists in decreasing the symptoms of aging.
Ionized water also assists in balancing your body’s pH. On the whole, most people’s bodies are acidic and this results in feeling fatigued, restless, etc. An acidic body is also a good place for diseases to initiate their attack against the body. Since ionized water is alkaline, it dissolves acid waste helps to maintain balance. Maintaining your body’s alkalinity may be considered to be a primary line of defense against infection.
Among other characteristics of ionized water is that it heightens taste and quality of food. The reason is simple – it is better able to hydrate food.
Skeptics say that ionized water is pseudoscientific hype. Here’s why. Most of the ionized water instruments are overpriced and they are simply electrical gadgets that supposedly produce “ionized” and alkaline water by electrolysis. And most of these machines are exported from Japan and Korea.
As a result, there is one camp than insists that ionized water is “sales fiction.” They theorize that plain water is not conductive enough to go through changes via electrolysis by the so-called ‘water ionizer’ devices. They also maintain that pure water cannot be alkaline or acidic. Alkaline water needs to have metallic ions.
Since we normally neutralize acid by CO2, some say that consuming alkaline water to neutralize acidic foods does not make sense. And one of the strongest claims that ionized water does not amount to much use comes from the fact that water is taken in the intestine as opposed to the stomach. When the contents of the stomach enter the intestine, they are automatically neutralized (pancreatic secretions). This would mean that all the water at this point is alkaline to start with.
